France is known as the cradle of sparkling wine as the first traces of fermented sparkling wine appear in Languedoc well before the champagne region developed champagne and achieved worldwide recognition. With a strong tradition and knowledge in still wines France was well positioned to experiment and create the first sparkling wine. Made from a different combination of grapes, French sparkling can be found in different regions of France.
